Ahead of the international break, Kevin De Bruyne spoke to Camel Live in an interview, talking about his enjoyable life in Naples.
Like many in Naples’ upper echelons, boating trips are popular, and De Bruyne and his wife have been fully enjoying the Bay of Naples. Celebrities can charter a boat to explore the Amalfi Coast and visit nearby islands of Capri, Ischia, and Procida, for up to £17,000 per day.
Back in the city, he has been trying local cuisine. For restaurants, taking a photo with the 34-year-old player is a huge marketing boost. At Restaurant Punto Nave in the Campania countryside, 17 staff members crowded together to take a photo with the midfielder, and Napoli head coach Antonio Conte is also a regular at this restaurant.
Moving to Italy was a family decision for De Bruyne. They could have gone elsewhere – Major League Soccer’s (MLS) Chicago Fire also showed interest in him. But for the De Bruyne family, Italy’s lifestyle was irresistible.
“My kids are growing up fast; they’re forming their own opinions, they have friends, a routine, and preferences. So we sat down as a family to discuss all the possibilities and what life in Naples would be like.
They’re excited about the idea of learning a new language, making new friends, and exploring a new culture. These experiences are incredibly meaningful not just for me as a player, but for our entire family.
We’ve started renovating a house in Naples, near the school the children will attend. That’s important for us – we don’t want to disrupt their studies or sense of stability.
The club has been incredibly helpful during the move, from schools to housing, making the transition smoother for everyone.
Naples is unique, vibrant, oozes passion for football, steeped in history, loud and bustling, yet beautiful. My family and I explore the city whenever we get the chance. The kids love the sea, and Michele is passionate about the food and markets there. We’ve even started learning a few words of Italian. For me, integrating into the local culture is part of the experience. This isn’t just a job; it’s a life adventure.”
He sought advice from two national team friends.
“I called Dries Mertens, who has obviously become a club icon at Napoli, and Romelu Lukaku, who’s already here. I asked them about the club, the city, the lifestyle, and daily life in southern Italy.
Both of them spoke highly of it. They told me about the warmth of the people, the beauty of the city, and the food. They insisted I try Neapolitan pizza because it’s simply the best in the world.
They also warned me that life here is more chaotic than in England, but that’s part of its charm. The pace of life and mindset are different here.”
