In Round 4 of the UEFA Champions League Group Stage, Union Saint-Gilloise lost 1-3 to Atletico Madrid away from home. When interviewed after the game, Union Saint-Gilloise coach David Hubert said that although it was a defeat, he was proud of the performance shown by his players.
David Hubert first said: “Throughout the game, we showed a lot of really good things. We knew that when we came here, we wouldn’t dominate the entire match. In the second half, when they had possession, we had to stay compact to withstand their attacks—but we played a very complete game.”
“We found ways to play with the ball when we had possession; we tried to find space, and we successfully did that in the first half. But we didn’t get the goal we probably deserved, especially in the first half.”
David Hubert concluded: “They are all world-class players. Their first goal was a bit frustrating because we talked about them before and analyzed them, but that’s okay—things like this happen when you play against top clubs like Atletico Madrid. We faced some difficulties in the second half, but when you see how tough the lads were, and that we almost equalized late on, it makes me proud of the performance my players showed.”
