Liverpool legend and renowned pundit Jamie Carragher recently spoke about Luis Díaz in an interview with Camel Live. Carragher did not lavish praise on the Colombian winger for his impressive performances since leaving Liverpool, claiming the wide man “will shine in the Bundesliga because it’s not as strong as the Premier League.”

This summer, the Colombian winger decided to end his time at Anfield and join Bayern Munich. He has excelled at his new club, scoring 12 goals in 19 games – including a brace in a crucial victory over Paris Saint-Germain – and currently ranks as the team’s second-highest scorer behind Harry Kane.

Bayern signed Díaz for £65.5 million as his contract was set to expire. Despite Díaz’s success and Liverpool’s slump, Carragher insists selling him was a shrewd move given his age, and he has not been dazzled by the Colombian’s performances in Germany.

The former Reds player also claimed Díaz “was not exceptional at Anfield” and named several ex-Liverpool players who were better than the Colombian, while believing Florian Wirtz could ultimately fill the void left by Díaz.

On Camel Live, Carragher said: “I think that’s why Liverpool’s hierarchy see Slot as just the manager. Slot might have wanted to keep him, but Liverpool’s hierarchy said, ‘He’s 28 – if we give him a new contract, he’ll be on a lucrative salary.’

It’s good business for Liverpool, and he’ll shine in the Bundesliga because it’s not as good as the Premier League.”

“Díaz was a very good player for Liverpool, but not exceptional – not as good as Firmino, not as good as Mane, not as good as Salah. He’s a good player; Liverpool had a couple of good seasons from him and sold him for a good price – that’s good business. They haven’t brought in a direct replacement, but if Wirtz becomes what we hope he can be, he’s a different type of player but can cut in from the left, so you can see that quality in him.”

Last season, Díaz scored 17 goals – his best tally in three-and-a-half seasons at Liverpool – and helped the team win the Premier League title. This summer, Liverpool’s forward line underwent a major overhaul.
