Prediction: Morocco wins
The 2025 AFCON kicks off with what appears to be a one-sided matchup on paper. However, Morocco will have to be wary of their opponents, as Comoros are capable of causing better teams problems. With that said, Morocco have proven their dominance over other African nations during their record-breaking winning streak.
Perhaps even more impressive during this current stretch is their defensive record. The hosts are rarely broken down and it will take a herculean effort not only for Comoros to avoid defeat, but even just to find the net. Our Morocco vs Comoros prediction: Morocco wins.

Morocco recently won the Arab Cup, although it’s important to note that they have a completely different squad that contests that tournament, along with the African Nations Championship (CHAN). These matches often don’t count towards the main national team.
When discussing the main senior team, Morocco come into this match on a world record 18 consecutive wins, a record previously held by Spain (15). During that stretch, Morocco managed to score 55 goals while conceding only four times.
The absence of team captain Achraf Hakimi is surely going to hurt the Atlas Lions as the PSG man continues to recover from an ankle injury. Missing the right back’s constant bombarding runs down the right side means that Morocco will be without an element of dynamism in their attack.
Filling in will likely be Manchester United’s Noussair Mazraoui who should be joined by centre back pairing Nayef Aguerd and Jawad El Yamiq.
Youssef En-Nesyri is expected to lead the line as the main striker. We’re also likely to see Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz taking up the right wing in Morocco’s 4-3-3 system.

Comoros claimed back-to-back wins over Namibia in a pair of friendly matches back in November. Prior to that, they put up a good fight against Ghana in a WCQ match, but ultimately fell to a 1-0 away defeat.
Comoros sensationally beat out Tunisia to finish first in their AFCON qualifying group, taking four points off the North African side in their two meetings. They also managed to give a good account of themselves in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, winning five of their 10 matches in total to finish fourth in their group of six teams.
The likes of Ezzalzouli, Akhomach, Talbi, Saibari, El Khannouss and Ben Seghir will all be pushing for a spot, although the latter three have the added versatility of being able to line up as part of the midfield three along with the attacking front three.
Comoros manager Stefano Cusin doesn’t have any injury concerns to worry about ahead of the tournament opener.
The main players to watch out for in the Comoros squad include midfielder Youssouf M’Changama, who is the country’s most capped player of all time at 70. Leading the line will be Myziane Maolida, who will be counted on to provide the goals for this Comoros side. Maolida has scored five goals in 17 caps for Les Coelacanthes.
Final Prediction:
Asian Handicap: Morocco -1.5/2
European Handicap: Morocco wins
Predicted Scores: 2-0, 3-0, 3-1
Predicted Total Goals: 2, 3, 4
