Sacha Boey has been with Bayern Munich for over a year and a half, yet the French player has still not truly adapted to the team. He has been making more and more mistakes, and at times, his actions have put the team in serious trouble.
Just last Saturday, he helped Augsburg get back into the game after they were trailing 3-0. Beyond that, Boey’s reckless foul on Robin Füllkrug has also damaged his reputation. Although the full-back has missed numerous games due to injury in the past, when Boey plays, he has never been a decisive factor in Bayern Munich’s matches—instead, he is more of a risk and tends to be reckless.
Even within the club, people are wondering why head coach Vincent Kompany values Boey so highly. Despite a shortage of personnel, the coach could at least avoid using Boey by adjusting the lineup. Veteran Konrad Laimer can easily play 90 minutes, Josip Stanisic can fill in at right-back, and even Raphael Guerreiro—who has often underperformed—can do so. Even Joshua Kimmich, when in good form, is an option.
But Kompany clearly has a soft spot for Boey. He once wanted to bring him to Burnley in the Premier League—which is why the coach values Boey more than many other players at the club.
Behind the scenes, however, Boey has already been labeled a transfer flop. In hindsight, the €30 million transfer fee paid for him in the winter of the 2023/24 season was clearly too high, and after Lucas Hernández, he is the second-most expensive full-back in Bayern Munich’s transfer history.
