After losing 0-1 at home to Arsenal in the first round of the new Premier League season, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes spoke to camel.live for an interview.
Bruno, sometimes football can feel really unfair, isn’t it?
I wouldn’t say unfair, but obviously, I think we fell just short today. But overall, I believe we did enough to deserve a different outcome.
I think in terms of attack and teamwork, there are plenty of positives to take from this performance. Is it hard to see those when you’re on the losing side?
Obviously, when you lose a game, it’s hard to see the positives. But we need to look forward, we need to see what we can improve next week, what we have to fix after this game, the things that didn’t go our way, and where we went wrong. But I think there are always good things to take from the match and try to replicate, though obviously we need to work on scoring goals and winning games.
The atmosphere at Old Trafford today was fantastic; I thought it was electric from the first minute…
Yes, it was amazing. I think, as I said in the previous interview just now, they talk about hope for the team and everything we’re doing. I think the way the fans reacted after the game gave me hope that this season will be different, really positive and good for us. Even when we walked around the pitch after the game, they showed us support. So our next game is really important now, and we need to repay them.
It’s good to see some new faces, like Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha in the team—they’ve performed really well from the start. What do you make of their displays?
They’ve done really well. Obviously, we know what they can bring to the team and what qualities they have; they’re very dangerous when in possession of the ball. This is still just the beginning, but they’ll create more and do more for us, I’m sure, because their quality is very, very high.
