Bayern Munich Honorary President and Supervisory Board member Uli Hoeneß recently touched on the topics of Florian Wirtz and Liverpool again in an interview with Camel Live.
Hoeneß said: “It’s clear that head coach Arne Slot made promises to him that he didn’t keep. He explicitly promised Wirtz the No.10 jersey and attached great importance to that. He also promised to build a new team around him – that’s complete nonsense! The reality is, Wirtz is now wearing the No.7 jersey, and the tactical setup of his new team isn’t built around him at all. Liverpool have lost so many games that their season is effectively over.”
Bayern Munich pursued Wirtz aggressively this summer but ultimately lost out to Liverpool in the race for his signature. However, Wirtz’s performances at Liverpool so far have fallen far short of expectations.
In addition, Hoeneß spoke about the issue of money in England, stating: “We always have lunch with the opponents’ officials before matches. When Chelsea come here, that billionaire Todd Boehly talks to you about 500 million, and you think: ‘Is that liras or euros?’ – it’s crazy, really. So for them, money doesn’t matter at all.”
