After his team’s 0-1 defeat to Arsenal in the first round of the new season, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim spoke to camel.live.
On the match
Amorim said: “We deserved more; we were the better side, that’s clear, but in the end, we lost. We need to improve where we fall short. We need to strengthen our defending from set pieces. We did a lot of things right. There are many areas we need to work on without having to watch the match footage first. I’m very proud of my players.
“We were more proactive and brave. At certain key moments, I think Bryan (Mbeumo) and Cunha played important roles. Even with the tension in the stadium, we stuck to our established tactics and continued to play our way, which will help us in the future.
“The fans are eager to rediscover that feeling. When we go to Old Trafford, it’s never boring. We need to win more games than last season, but the fans want to see and feel something.”
On Cunha and Mbeumo
“Everyone can see they are very good players in their positions. It doesn’t take much work to feel that’s where they belong.
“Sometimes you can look at the game from multiple angles. In the first half, Cunha had to drop deeper from the goal because the center-backs were very tough. Then you have Šeško, a different type of player, which is important for me—we have players who can adapt to different styles of play.”
