Liverpool Transfer News: Hugo Ekitike's Next Move as Arne Slot Already Plots 2026 Transfers

Once Liverpool complete the signing of Hugo Ekitike, their summer spending will approach the £300 million mark, but the Premier League champions are already focusing on transfer matters for next year.
Liverpool are set to create another sensation in the transfer market by signing Hugo Ekitike – their chequebook will open again next summer. The Reds have been promoting their new status as Premier League champions to help strengthen Arne Slot's squad.
In June, the signings of Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz came at a high cost, with Wirtz's transfer breaking the British transfer record. The three players cost the Reds a total of £186 million, and together with Giorgi Mamardashvili, Amin Younes and Freddie Woodman, their spending so far this summer has exceeded £210 million.
Liverpool are planning to offset their expenses by selling some players, possibly Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz, whose futures have become more uncertain amid the team's pursuit of Ekitike. Jarell Quansah joined Bayer Leverkusen earlier this month for £35 million, while the sales of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher and Nat Phillips brought in another £31 million for the club.
It is understood that Ekitike is close to arriving in Merseyside after Liverpool made progress over the weekend, and sources say they have identified transfer targets for 2026, which will also cost them huge sums of money. Additionally, there are transfer developments involving Diaz.
Ekitike Deal Imminent
Liverpool are on the verge of reaching a comprehensive agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt to sign Hugo Ekitike. The Reds have already agreed personal terms with the forward, and his contract will run until 2031.
Reports suggest that Liverpool and Frankfurt have reached a consensus on the framework of the deal and are currently finalizing the details. After that, the 23-year-old will be allowed to undergo a medical examination and join Arne Slot's team. If all additional clauses are met, the transfer fee could exceed the German club's previous record of £82.3 million – set when Randal Kolo Muani joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2023.

Walton Makes a Decision
Liverpool are pushing for a deal to sign Adam Wharton next summer, after the midfielder decided to stay at Crystal Palace for another season. The 21-year-old has been linked with a big-money transfer during his brilliant 18 months with the Eagles (Crystal Palace's nickname).
However, reports indicate that he will reject interest from other clubs and remain at Crystal Palace for the 2025-26 season. It is also added that Liverpool has been working on this deal "for some time" but prioritized signings in other positions this year.

Bayern Focuses on Diaz
Bayern Munich has suspended negotiations with Stuttgart over forward Nick Waldmeier to focus on signing Luis Diaz. Earlier this week, Liverpool rejected Bayern's £58.5 million offer, and it is understood that the Bundesliga giants remain optimistic about reaching a deal for the winger.
The Bundesliga champions have been given an opportunity to sign the 28-year-old Diaz after Barcelona turned their attention to Marcus Rashford, who is a target for Manchester United. The Colombian has informed Liverpool of his desire to leave.
