Real Madrid’s contract renewal negotiations with Brazilian winger Vinícius Jr. have currently hit a deadlock, with significant disagreements between the two sides on two key issues: salary terms and the player’s tactical role.
Recently, Vinícius’ agent team visited Real Madrid City and held a meeting lasting approximately two hours with the club’s senior management. The meeting was originally scheduled around the October 26th El Clásico, but due to the urgent situation, the agent side decided to advance the communication.
The discrepancy in salary terms between the two parties is approximately 15%, and neither side has shown any willingness to compromise so far. In fact, since the Club World Cup, the renewal dialogue between Real Madrid and Vinícius has been at a standstill.
Although Vinícius has publicly stated his willingness to stay at Real Madrid long-term on multiple occasions, he has obvious discomfort with head coach Xabi Alonso’s tactical system. The player believes that he has consistently followed the coach’s requirements to significantly increase his defensive involvement, which has restrained his attacking strengths. Vinícius feels he is gradually being marginalized and clearly recognizes that this arrangement stems from the coaching staff’s tactical decisions, rather than a strategic adjustment at the club level.
Since receiving an offer from Saudi Arabia in the summer of 2024, there has been no movement around him. However, it is equally true that his agent has not responded to any calls received—because the player’s wish is to continue staying at Real Madrid, and this requires accepting the club’s contract renewal offer.
At present, the club is not considering taking any hasty actions. At Real Madrid, such situations are usually resolved after the end of the season; if no renewal is reached by the summer of 2026, that will be the time to consider external opportunities.
