Earlier this month, England manager Thomas Tuchel excluded Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, and Jack Grealish from the squad for the current international break—a decision that sparked considerable controversy. Recently, Paul Scholes shared his views on the matter in an interview with Camel Live.
Scholes said: “I’m a bit surprised by Tuchel’s decision. These three players—Bellingham, Foden, and Grealish—deserve to be in his squad, and they must have a place in the World Cup lineup. Looking at the current squad, you’d say England has almost no chance of winning the World Cup. Even with these three, winning would still be a huge challenge, but it would at least give the team a better shot.”
“Bellingham missed a few games earlier, but he’s now returned to fitness, and I think he should be back in the team. The World Cup is not far away, and Tuchel has very few evaluation games left—he only has the November international break and the March 2025 window before the World Cup arrives. So we need to get these key players on the pitch to build chemistry.”
“I don’t agree with Tuchel’s decision because this England squad for the current international break simply doesn’t have the ability to win the World Cup. Even with Bellingham, Foden, and Grealish, the road to the title will still be full of difficulties, but it would at least make the squad stronger—they must be selected. They are England’s three top players, so I’m confused by their exclusion.”
