Newcastle United have a backup plan in their forward pursuit: if the deal for RB Leipzig's Benjamin Šeško collapses, Paris Saint-Germain's Gonçalo Ramos is lined up as an alternative, with a potential £50 million price tag.
For now, 22-year-old Slovenian star Šeško remains Newcastle's top target. The club has already made an 80 million euro bid to Leipzig (75 million euro fixed fee plus 5 million euro in add-ons), but this figure has yet to meet the Bundesliga side's valuation, leaving negotiations at a standstill. Complicating matters, Manchester United are also tracking Šeško, and the young forward has yet to decide on his future.
To avoid missing out entirely, Newcastle have long had their sights on Portuguese international Ramos. Though a lower priority than Šeško, the PSG striker has entered substantive evaluation—with £50 million seen as a "reasonable range" for his transfer. For Newcastle, Ramos' experience and immediate impact (15 goals and 5 assists for PSG last season) could quickly bolster their attack, serving as a reliable fallback.
However, Newcastle are still pushing hard for Šeško: the 80 million euro deal could revive if they convince Leipzig to lower their demands or if United drop out. If talks collapse entirely, Ramos will be ready to "step in," ensuring the club strengthens their forward line before the transfer window closes.
