Newcastle United will spend a total of over €80 million to sign Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike.
This will break Newcastle’s previous transfer record – the club signed Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad for €71.2 million in the summer of 2022.
Ekitike was originally set to join Newcastle in January 2022 for over £20 million, but the move collapsed on transfer deadline day. However, the northeast club has continued to monitor the 23-year-old.
Ekitike joined Frankfurt permanently in the summer of 2024 for €17.5 million, scoring 22 goals and providing 12 assists for the club in the 2024-25 season. The previous season, he had been on loan at Frankfurt from Paris Saint-Germain.
He currently has a contract with Frankfurt until 2029. His departure would mark the third high-profile sale of a forward by Frankfurt in the past two years.
Previously, Omar Marmoush moved to Manchester City in the winter transfer window for a fee between €70-75 million, while Randal Kolo Muani joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2023 for €95 million.
