With Son Heung-min having informed Tottenham Hotspur of his desire to leave, LAFC is currently engaged in in-depth negotiations with Tottenham. Son is expected to depart after Tottenham’s friendly match against Newcastle United, and LAFC has already sent negotiators to South Korea (Tottenham’s friendly with Newcastle is taking place in Seoul).
Regarding his decision to leave, Son Heung-min stated: “I just want to let everyone know that I have decided to leave the club this summer. To be honest, the club is helping me make this decision. This is the hardest decision of my career. The main reason is that I have achieved everything I could at Tottenham Hotspur. I need a new environment to take on new challenges.”
“I have been here for ten years. It’s a great club with amazing fans. I have so many wonderful memories. I just feel I need a new environment to motivate myself and unlock more potential. I think I need a bit of change. Ten years is a long time.”
“I came to North London at a very young age, 23, still very young. A boy who couldn’t speak English. Now I’m leaving the club as a man. Thank you to all Tottenham fans who have shown me such deep love. This place has been like home to me. This is one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made. I believe now is the right time to leave. I hope everyone can understand and respect that.”
The 33-year-old Son Heung-min’s current contract with Tottenham expires in June next year, and his current market value on Transfermarkt stands at €20 million.
