Toni Kroos: Opposes adding too many matches for money; there are no poor people in football

Former German international Toni Kroos has clearly criticized the new format of the Club World Cup, with the 2014 World Cup winner having several reasons for disliking the tournament.

The new format of the Club World Cup continues to draw mixed reactions, and Kroos is clearly in the camp that is critical of it. “There are no poor people in football. Those who play football do what they love and earn a lot of money, so there are no poor people. But I am a fan of quality in matches. To maintain the quality of matches, players must stay fresh, both physically and mentally healthy, and that is becoming increasingly difficult,” Kroos complained about the growing pressure on professional footballers in an interview.

"I said this when I was still playing, and I haven't changed my mind: we play too much, but no one asks the players' opinions. In the end, it's just more money and less rest," Kroos criticized.

According to the former Real Madrid player, this will ultimately lead to two consequences. "As we have seen for some time now, there are more injuries. The quality of matches and the motivation of key players have both declined. There's no other way, because when you play for 11 consecutive months, you can't always maintain the same level of focus and interest. That's why I don't like competitions like the Club World Cup or the Nations League," Kroos commented.
