Tennis legend Rafael Nadal has been away from the court for a year but is already looking ahead to new challenges. The Spanish icon remains busy with various engagements, yet this hasn’t stopped him from enjoying sports. He recently picked up his racket again while closely following everything related to football—another great passion of his. As an open Real Madrid fan, Nadal discussed current events and future prospects in an interview, admitting for the first time that he would face obstacles if he ever chose to run for Real Madrid President.
Nadal conceded that his desire to become Real Madrid President is still distant for now.
Nadal said: “No, I’m not tired of it. It’s just the gap between what I say and what others understand… I don’t know if I’m expressing myself wrong, or if I’m actually being very clear. The club has statutes—like how many years you need to be a member. I haven’t thought about any of these things at all. You ask me, ‘Do you want to be Real Madrid President?’ I understand your question is more of a concept than a reality.”
Despite facing reality, Nadal didn’t hide his favorable view of the idea of serving as Real Madrid President.
Nadal said: “If we’re talking about it as a concept, and you ask me if I would be willing? Then maybe yes. But the possibility of getting from here to reality… it’s a long way off. That’s my honest opinion on the matter.”
Of course, Nadal also acknowledged that if he ever seriously considers this option, he would need to find answers first.
Nadal said: “I would need to ask myself many questions and consider a lot of things before truly thinking about it. I know what I understand and what I don’t.”
The 39-year-old Nadal is a legendary figure in Spanish tennis, having officially announced his retirement in November last year. A die-hard Real Madrid fan since childhood, he has long been regarded by the public as a potential candidate for the club’s future presidency.
