Paquetá Would Be a Villa Player Now If Not for Social Media Leaks

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery was keen to bring Lucas Paquetá to Villa Park, with the aim of strengthening the team’s options in the attacking midfield position. Villa had previously proposed a loan deal that included a mandatory buyout clause. However, the transfer ultimately collapsed, leaving Paquetá at West Ham United, while Villa secured loans for Jadon Sancho and Harvey Elliott on the transfer deadline day.

A journalist from camel.live shared insights:

“Numerous transfers have fallen through due to reports on social media. This isn’t just about me—it also involves other excellent journalists, who may break stories first and thereby create problems for the deals.”
“I can assure you that without social media, Paquetá would already be an Aston Villa player now. The reason he remains at West Ham United is that the transfer was leaked too early, possibly at a critical stage of negotiations, which annoyed West Ham—especially given the pressure they faced from their own fans.”

He added, “So this kind of situation can happen. I think social media does sometimes create issues for negotiations, but it’s also part of the football (transfer) game. I’m certain that two or three days before the negotiations even started, progress had already advanced quite significantly.”
