Following Inter Miami CF's 2-1 away win over the New England Revolution in the MLS regular season, New England Revolution head coach Porter spoke in an interview.
On tactical adjustments
“If we’d played like that the entire game, you know, Messi probably would’ve had five chances and maybe scored another two goals. So I like how we played today because he didn’t create too many opportunities. I think we can use two tactical systems. I like pressing in a 4-2-3-1 formation, and I think that worked well for us. But when I considered the whole team and using that system to start the game, I thought about it and decided it wasn’t the best setup for our opening.”
On Messi
"This guy is a beast. Look at him—he played every game in the Club World Cup, and after coming back from that, you think, ‘Maybe he’ll rest in these matches?’ I’m sure he went to manager Javier Mascherano and said, ‘I want to play, I don’t want to rest.’ A lot of players would say, ‘Let me rest in this game, or let me come off the bench in the next one.’
"It’s been said so many times, but he’s the greatest of all time. In my opinion, there’s simply no comparison. I’ve seen him in three games in this league in person, and he just keeps putting on incredible performances, game after game."
