The labor dispute between Kylian Mbappé and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) was heard again today, with the court declaring PSG liable and ordering the club to pay approximately €61 million in compensation to Mbappé.

Four judges ruled against PSG, mandating the payment of around €61 million to Mbappé, while PSG retains the right to appeal. Additionally, all counterclaims filed by PSG against Mbappé were dismissed. Mbappé’s legal team expressed great satisfaction following the verdict.

Background:

At the start of the 2023/24 season, Mbappé was excluded from PSG’s first team after announcing his decision not to renew his contract upon its expiration in 2024—a choice that prevented PSG from securing a substantial transfer fee for the player. He returned to the first team a few weeks later.

Events during those weeks form the core of the case. PSG insists there was a verbal agreement in which Mbappé agreed to forgo part of his salary owed upon contract expiration, a claim Mbappé vehemently denies. During a labor tribunal hearing last November, Mbappé’s representatives sought €263 million in compensation from PSG, requesting the reclassification of his fixed-term contract (CDD) as a permanent contract (CDI) and alleging the player suffered moral harassment during the period.

Details of Mbappé’s claim include €44.6 million for unfair dismissal, €40.4 million in signing bonuses, €37.5 million for undeclared work, €25.7 million in statutory severance pay, and €19 million in unpaid wages for April to June. Meanwhile, during a hearing on November 17, 2025, PSG filed a counterclaim of €440 million against Mbappé. The club argued that Mbappé’s free transfer to Real Madrid in June 2024 deprived them of any transfer revenue, estimating losses from the failed potential transfer alone at no less than €180 million.
