Ajax have officially announced that Jordan Henderson has terminated his contract with the club and is set to leave as a free agent.

In an official statement, Ajax wrote: “Henderson is set to leave Ajax. The club has agreed to the player's request to terminate his existing contract. The English player's contract with Ajax was originally set to expire on 30 June 2026, but it has now been terminated with immediate effect.”

Speaking about his departure, Henderson said: “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone associated with Ajax for giving me the opportunity to represent this incredible club over the past few years. It has been an honor in itself to play for this club, and an even greater privilege to have had the chance to captain it. My only regret is that we weren't able to bring more success to those amazing supporters. They deserve to celebrate major trophies again, and I'm sure that moment will come soon.”

“My family and I have felt so welcome, not just within the club, but also in the beautiful city of Amsterdam. We will always be grateful for that. Due to the tragic incident last week, where my former teammate Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva sadly passed away, I don't know what else to say or do right now beyond sharing this brief statement. But I know I owe this club, my teammates, and the supporters a more comprehensive and fitting thank you. Of course, I will do that when the time is right. For now, I want to once again thank Ajax, and everyone I didn't get the chance to speak to in person yesterday – you're what makes this club so special.”

Henderson joined Ajax on a free transfer in January 2024, making a total of 57 appearances for the club, scoring 1 goal and providing 9 assists. There are rumors that he could return to his boyhood club Sunderland.
