Gavi has undergone meniscus repair surgery and is expected to be sidelined for 4 to 5 months.
His last appearance for Barcelona was in a league match against Levante in August. During a training session following that match, he sustained a knee injury. Initially, the club anticipated Gavi would be out for just over a month, but the conservative treatment he received in recent weeks proved ineffective. As a result, under the supervision of the club's medical team, he underwent further examinations.
Doctors discovered that his injury was more severe than expected, making surgical intervention necessary. Gavi was devastated upon learning that he would face another lengthy period of rehabilitation.
This is the second major injury for the 21-year-old Gavi. Back in November 2023, during a match between Spain and Georgia, he suffered a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee. This injury kept him out of action for 11 months and also caused him to miss the 2024 European Championship.
This latest injury, moreover, is highly likely to shatter his hopes of being selected for next year's World Cup squad. By the time he makes his return to the pitch next year, head coach Luis de la Fuente will most probably have already finalized the team roster for the World Cup.
