Barcelona has inquired about the situations of Bayern Munich’s two starting center-backs, Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano. However, the club must first resolve the future of Uruguayan center-back Ronald Araújo and address registration-related issues.
The Catalan side is monitoring the future plans of Upamecano and Kim at Bayern and has already made inquiries regarding a potential transfer for the two defenders.
Barça sporting director Deco highly values the duo’s strengths in high-line defending and build-up play, as these align with the tactical approach of current manager Hansi Flick. However, nothing has been finalized thus far.
In any case, Barcelona will only pursue Upamecano or Kim if Ronald Araújo leaves the club. Araújo’s contract features a release clause of around €65 million, though it is only valid until July 15. Currently, Barça is also closely watching whether any club will activate this buyout clause.
Additionally, Barça must first sell players to register new signings. The club had shown interest in Upamecano even before his move from RB Leipzig to Bayern. Presently, Bayern have not reached an agreement with the Frenchman over a contract extension, with significant financial differences remaining between both parties. Upamecano’s unresolved contract situation has already attracted attention from other top clubs, with interest pouring in.
