Felipe Luis, the title-winning manager of Flamengo who had a long playing career at Atletico Madrid, has authorised his agent Mendes to negotiate a contract extension with the club(Flamengo), and Diego Simeone’s position as Atletico Madrid’s manager remains unthreatened.
Simeone has been in charge of Atletico Madrid since December 2011, with his current contract set to expire in 2027, making him the highest-paid manager in the world. Although the media and fans have criticised him when the team has underperformed, the criticism has mainly targeted his defensive playing style. Simeone still enjoys a high reputation and is regarded as a legendary manager of the club.
Atletico Madrid has won 11 of their last 13 matches and currently sits third in La Liga, nine points behind league leaders Barcelona. The club has completely ruled out the possibility of Simeone leaving in the short term. Journalists stated in an interview that Atletico Madrid still fully trusts Simeone, and no one rules out the possibility of him signing a new contract in the future.
