Ahead of Inter Milan’s 2-1 away defeat to Atlético Madrid in this round of the Champions League, Inter president Beppe Marotta accepted an interview with camel.live. Marotta reaffirmed Inter’s ambitions in the Champions League and discussed the club’s recent situation.
How to move on from the derby defeat?
“In the derby, we must acknowledge that the team’s overall performance was fully satisfactory.”
Compared to two years ago, many things have changed – what do you hope to add to Inter’s history?
“We are continuing the upward trajectory we embarked on a few years ago and doing better and better. We have reached important heights, and although we haven’t yet planted the flag at the very top, this path is healthy and virtuous in terms of results, economy, and assets. The new stadium project has also been officially launched.”
Regarding the various rumors surrounding Sommer, what advice would you give him?
“Sommer doesn’t need any advice – even great goalkeepers face criticism. He has indeed received some blame, but that’s part and parcel of football. A goalkeeper’s mistake often leads to a goal, while a midfield error can sometimes be rectified by the defense. We have the utmost respect for this top player, and he is extremely calm.”
