Former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud recently appeared on a show and talked about Arsenal’s title challenge this season with Jamie Carragher. Giroud admitted that Arsenal would always "feel nervous" around February and March every year.
Carragher: Do you think Arsenal can end this long wait this season?
Giroud: I hope so, I wish them well, but usually we would start to feel nervous around February or March. I remember when Leicester City won the title in 2016, we dropped off a bit during that period. So if Arsenal can keep the rhythm and still be neck-and-neck with Man City around mid-March... I’d say they can do it.
Carragher: Can I ask, when you talk about being mentally affected at that stage, are you referring to the players in the dressing room, or does it actually include the fans, the whole atmosphere, and everyone feeling a bit jittery about possibly losing the lead?
Giroud: No, no, no, I’m referring to us... the players. Sorry, statistically you can see from the records that a few years ago, last year and even two years ago, Arsenal were in the title race until a certain point... they lost their chance because they lacked consistency, maybe, right around February or March. It’s too early to say they’ll win the league, but three points like this in this round are crucial.
