Borussia Dortmund, founded on December 19, 1909, is a football club based in Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia (North Rhine) state, Germany, nicknamed ""the Yellow Hornets"". Its home stadium is Signal Iduna Park.
Team History
The matches between Dortmund, which rose to prominence after World War II, and Schalke 04—both located in the Ruhr industrial area (Ruhr Region) of North Rhine-Westphalia—are notoriously intense due to their close geographical proximity and shared working-class culture, known as the ""Ruhr Derby"" (Ruhr Derby, Mining Derby). In recent years, the club has been strong domestically, and its matches against Bayern Munich are often referred to by many fans as the ""German National Derby"".
In 1965, Borussia Dortmund won the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) for the first time, and went on to lift the trophy four more times thereafter. Additionally, the team has won 1 UEFA Champions League title, 1 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, 1 Intercontinental Cup (Toyota Cup), and 8 German top-flight league titles.

Nowadays
In January 2025, Borussia Dortmund loaned out Sebastien Haller; Donyell Malen transferred out; recalled Salih Özcan early; and appointed Niko Kovac as head coach.
In 2005, Borussia Dortmund nearly went bankrupt due to financial problems. In May 2008, the arrival of Jürgen Klopp had a significant impact on the team.
