In Matchweek 17 of La Liga, Real Madrid defeated Sevilla 2-0 at home. Vinícius Jr. was substituted in the 83rd minute.

Real Madrid winger Vinícius has once again been at the center of controversy following a substitution, this time playing out in front of his 57 million Instagram followers rather than during El Clásico.

The Brazilian forward was angered after being booed by fans when he was substituted off the pitch. Shortly after the final whistle blew on Real Madrid’s match against Sevilla, Vinícius immediately changed his Instagram profile picture.

In a fit of frustration, just 10 minutes later in the dressing room, he deleted all photos of himself wearing the Real Madrid jersey and replaced them with pictures of him representing the Brazilian national team.

The year 2025 has not been a smooth one for Vinícius, as his relationship with Real Madrid fans and the manager has become increasingly strained.

The fans’ booing directed at the Brazilian is a clear sign of their dissatisfaction with his attitude this season. His actions toward Xabi Alonso during El Clásico marked a turning point in his campaign, but several other incidents have also left Bernabéu supporters disgruntled.

When Talavera scored to make it 2-3, Vinícius’s laughter on the substitutes’ bench infuriated the Real Madrid faithful, who have since kept up the pressure on him—especially given his underwhelming performances on the pitch. The team’s winless run of 14 consecutive games has undoubtedly made a reconciliation between Vinícius and the Bernabéu crowd even more unlikely.

His recent move to delete all social media photos in a Real Madrid jersey is yet another example of the cold war between him and the fans. Meanwhile, the Brazilian star is yet to sign a contract extension with the club…
