After Atlético Madrid’s 2-1 Champions League win over Inter Milan at home, manager Diego Simeone commented on the match during a press conference.

On Giménez's performance:

“He is vital to us; he’s one of our captains, and we hope he maintains this form. What he brings to us is just as important as what other players contribute in their different roles. We must keep him at his best so he can continue giving his all for us.”

When asked about the best player today:

“It’s hard to choose because everyone performed well. That’s why when I’m asked what I value most about this team, I say rapport. We played a good first half, but the game is long and the opponent is tough. Our players were often pinned back, and we needed to find counterattack opportunities. After substitutions in the second half, we played a different style and were lucky to score through Giménez in the final moments.”

Are you hopeful of reaching the quarter-finals?

“We only think about the next game right now.”

On Poblete and Caldoso:

“Caldoso was sidelined for a long time due to injury, but he’s training well now and performing exceptionally. Because he’s improved, he can provide the team with the support it needs. Mussol played well, and Gallagher is always full of fighting spirit. We need everyone – no one is dispensable.”

Scoring from a corner in the last minute – is that an important signal for the future?

“We’re working hard to improve in this area. We know we have many opportunities from headers, and scoring from set pieces is crucial for winning games. We’re training on this.”

Some consider Inter Milan one of the best clubs in the Champions League – does today’s win mean Atlético is also a title contender?

“We take it one game at a time. There’s still much to improve on, and we just need to focus on that.”

Was Giménez's goal the result of his hard work? What did you say to him?

“Yes, I told him it was a great goal. He’s an extremely hardworking person, a fighter, a humble and responsible young man. He’s one of our captains, and I’m very happy he got the chance to score this goal.”
