In Matchweek 17 of the Premier League, Liverpool claimed a 2-1 away win over Tottenham Hotspur. After the match, Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz, who provided his first-ever Premier League assist in this game, spoke to Camel Live in an interview. The German player shared his thoughts on the game and related topics.
On His Take on the Game and Whether It Felt Absolutely Crazy
Do you think this game was absolutely crazy?
Wirtz: "Yes, it definitely was. But in the end, we’re delighted to have won the game and picked up these vital three points, so everyone is over the moon."
On Notching His First Premier League Assist
You also registered your first Premier League assist today.
Wirtz: "Yeah, it feels pretty good."
On His On-Pitch Experience, with a Quiet First Half and a Different Second Half
How did it feel out there on the pitch? It was a quiet first half, but the second half was a different story.
Wirtz: "Yes, I thought we were really good until the 70th minute. Of course, we got caught on the counterattack a few times in the first half, which is an area we can improve on going forward. But overall, we played extremely well for the first 70 minutes. Then they scored a goal from a set piece, and the game got a bit chaotic after that. But that’s always going to happen in a tight, intense match like this. After they scored, they were obviously pushing for a second goal. In the end, you just have to dig deep to see the game out and take the three points—and that’s exactly what we did today."
On His Personal Growth and Having More Time to Influence the Game
From a personal perspective, do you feel like you’re learning and improving, and getting more time to make an impact on the game?
Wirtz: "Yes, I thought I had a couple of good moments today. I got into the right positions, created some threats, and set up a goal-scoring opportunity. So yeah, I’m making progress every single week, and I can really feel it out there on the pitch. It makes me happy and allows me to enjoy football to the fullest."
On Team Injuries and the Current Mood in the Dressing Room
Have any players picked up injuries? How’s the atmosphere in the dressing room right now?
Wirtz: "Isak was a bit unlucky to get injured. I hope his injury isn’t too serious, but we’ll have to wait for the results of further checks. No one else has any major issues, though. We just hope Isak can return to the team as soon as possible."
