In the 13th round of the Premier League, Chelsea drew 1-1 with Arsenal at home.

In the 38th minute of the game, Moises Caicedo stepped on Arsenal player Martin Merino’s ankle during a midfield tussle. Referee Anthony Taylor initially showed a yellow card, but after a VAR review, he upgraded it to a straight red card on the grounds of "excessive force endangering the opponent's safety."

According to Camel Live statistics, this was the first red card of his club career, leaving Chelsea with 10 men as they eventually held the league leaders to a 1-1 draw.

The Premier League Official provided an explanation for the decision: “After a VAR review, the referee overturned the original yellow card decision on Caicedo and upgraded it to a red card due to a serious foul.”

The referee stated: “Following the review, Chelsea’s No. 25 used excessive force during the challenge, endangering the opponent’s safety. Therefore, my final decision is a red card.”
