In the concluded Premier League Matchweek 15, Liverpool was held to a 3-3 draw by Leeds United. Salah was left out of the starting lineup for the third consecutive game and failed to get any playing time.
Liverpool is taking a calm stance on the current situation, while Al Hilal has emphasized that it is willing to wait patiently to sign Salah unless a suitable opportunity emerges in the market. The 33-year-old player only signed a new two-year contract extension with Liverpool this summer.
Liverpool has a good relationship with Al Hilal—this summer, the Reds sold Uruguayan forward Darwin Núñez to the Saudi club for €53 million plus add-ons. Even amid the current tensions, and with Salah’s contract having only one year left after next summer, his transfer fee will still exceed this figure.
Salah has long known that a move to the Saudi Pro League would earn him a salary comparable to Cristiano Ronaldo’s. He is regarded as a marquee star for the league, and his total annual income—including base salary, bonuses, and additional earnings—could reach approximately €200 million per season.
However, Saudi Arabia is not Salah’s only option if he decides to leave Liverpool. Many European clubs are monitoring his situation, but many of them may only be able to afford a loan deal, which Liverpool is unlikely to agree to. Major League Soccer (MLS) teams have also discussed Salah, but no substantive action has been taken yet.
Last season, in Slot’s first season in charge of Liverpool, Salah scored 29 goals in the Premier League to help the team win the title. But this season, he has only scored 4 goals in 13 league games.
