According to media reports, Manchester United U18 coach Darren Fletcher’s two sons, Jack and Tyler, have chosen to represent England youth teams and Scotland youth teams respectively.

Ruben Amorim included both Fletcher brothers in the substitute bench for the Boxing Day Premier League match against Newcastle United. Jack made his Premier League debut less than a week ago, coming on as a substitute in United’s loss to Aston Villa. Amorim is currently short of personnel, with Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo both sidelined due to injuries.

The Fletcher twins are the sons of former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher. They joined the Red Devils from Manchester City’s academy in 2023. During his playing career, Darren Fletcher chose to represent Scotland, earning 81 caps. Tyler Fletcher has also entered the Scotland youth team system, while Jack Fletcher opted for England.

Amorim told reporters earlier: “I think Jack Fletcher has done really well, which is why when we have such opportunities, we need to give space to players like Jack and others. So, we will find solutions for the games.”

The Fletcher brothers were born in England when their father was playing for Manchester United’s first team, which means they can choose to represent either England or Scotland. In fact, United had a match on the day they were born, but Darren Fletcher was unable to play due to an ankle ligament injury.

Jack Fletcher chose to play for England youth teams in international competitions, though he also played for Scotland U16 in his younger days. During the November international break, he made two appearances for England U19 and scored a goal in the 4-0 win over Scotland.

Tyler was part of the Scotland team that day and captained the side. Earlier that month, he scored his first international goal for Scotland U19 in a 2-2 draw against Latvia away from home.

Manchester United fans were excited to see the brothers appear on the substitute bench together against Newcastle United. One fan commented: “So happy to see the Fletcher twins on the substitute bench together. What a wonderful moment this is for them and their family.”
