Ronald Araujo has been making headlines frequently lately. The Barcelona defender has requested indefinite leave to address his anxiety issues.
His head coach Hansi Flick publicly disclosed the player’s condition, stating it is a mental health problem rather than the gastroenteritis previously reported by the club.
"The situation is much more serious than we imagined. Araujo’s condition is extremely severe, and we’ll have to wait and see if he can return to Barcelona. This is a very dangerous situation," he warned.
The club is fully supporting him, as he has experienced anxiety symptoms on multiple occasions. He suffered an emotional breakdown.
Even FC Barcelona is unwilling to disclose when he will be able to return to work. They have told him to take his time, with the top priority being the recovery of his physical and mental health.
Therefore, Barcelona is currently struggling to determine how the club will respond if Araujo’s recovery period is as long as expected.
Nevertheless, given the current uncertainty, the board has not ruled out the possibility of signing another central defender on loan in the upcoming January transfer window to ensure the team has sufficient personnel reserves if Araujo requires a long-term recovery.
