Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl spoke to camel.live about failing to sign Woltemade during the summer transfer window.
Is Waldemar now worth €80 million?
“It’s a fact that Newcastle paid €90 million for him this summer. We think Woltemade has something special, but the transfer difficulties also stemmed from media hype, with positions from all sides being discussed and leaked. We set a budget ceiling for ourselves, which Stuttgart did not accept, so we had to make a decision to terminate the deal.”
Is Woltemade still a transfer target for Bayern in the future?
“It’s almost impossible to sign players from Newcastle because their owners have endowed them with unlimited financial resources.”
No transfer plans for Bayern in January unless there are injuries?
“That’s correct.”
Do you want to have a €500 million transfer budget like Liverpool?
“In my opinion, having a clear framework and a sensible budget plan is more important, as it allows you to stay focused at all times. This is a philosophy I have always adhered to.”
