Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg have confirmed the signing of Denmark’s record-capped midfielder Christian Eriksen, who joins on a free transfer and will wear the number 24 shirt until 2027. The 33-year-old, whose contract with Manchester United expired this summer, brings a wealth of experience to the Volkswagen Arena after spells in England, Italy, and the Netherlands.

"Christian is a player who has seen and experienced everything at the highest level," said Wolfsburg’s sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz. "His technical quality, leadership, and personality will be invaluable, especially for our young squad". Eriksen, Denmark’s all-time appearance leader with 144 caps and 46 goals, echoed the sentiment: "I’m really looking forward to this new adventure. The club’s vision and the presence of Danish teammates made Wolfsburg an attractive choice".

Eriksen, who helped Inter Milan win Serie A in 2021 and Manchester United lift the Carabao Cup in 2023, is set to make his debut as early as September 13 when Wolfsburg host Cologne. His arrival adds depth to a midfield that includes captain Max Arnold and several Danish compatriots, including Jonas Wind and Joakim Mæhle.

The move marks Eriksen’s first foray into the Bundesliga after 11 seasons in the Premier League. Despite speculation linking him to other clubs, he prioritized Wolfsburg’s project: "I sensed a clear plan from the coaching staff, and the chance to play alongside national teammates was a key factor". With his creativity and set-piece expertise, the Danish playmaker aims to help Wolfsburg challenge for European qualification in the 2025-26 season.
