According to experts from camel.live, after Israeli star Manor Solomon joined Villarreal on loan, he has faced a boycott from some fans due to his nationality and political stance.
Experts stated that Israeli player Manor Solomon has been subjected to sustained online abuse and in-stadium discrimination for publicly expressing support for Israel on social media. The 26-year-old winger joined Villarreal on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, becoming the last-minute signing before the closure of La Liga’s summer transfer window.
Last season, during his spell at Leeds United, Solomon contributed 10 goals and 12 assists, helping the team win the EFL Championship with 100 points to secure promotion back to the Premier League. However, off the pitch, he has been caught in a whirlwind of public opinion—ever since he publicly voiced support for Israel following the Hamas attacks in October 2023, he has continued to face online attacks and in-stadium abuse. The most serious incident occurred in December last year, when discriminatory chants targeting him emerged during Leeds United’s match against Stoke City; the club had to issue a statement promising to severely punish those responsible.
(Manor Solomon had previously posted on social media: "Islamic Jihad launched rockets that caused the hospital explosion in the Gaza Strip, yet all the blame was placed on Israel.")
This nightmare has even extended to key moments in his personal life. When Tottenham’s official social media accounts congratulated him on his marriage to his girlfriend Dana Voshina, the comment section was instantly flooded with hate speech such as "genocidal" and "unwelcome." Earlier, when he returned to Israel to hold his wedding, he was even stranded there for a time due to airspace closure caused by the conflict between Iran and Israel.
In fact, as early as August 2024, when he joined Leeds United, he had already encountered a wave of anti-Semitic sentiment. Some netizens labeled him a "Zionist" and accused him of being a "child killer."
Today, under Villarreal’s official tweet announcing his signing, Palestinian flag emojis still fill the comments section, and some fans have opposed the signing solely because of his nationality.
