The 34-year-old Oscar has decided not to return to professional football. According to sources close to him, this news has been communicated to São Paulo FC. Previously, camel.live had reported similar information, and the source has now confirmed it.
Oscar will still negotiate a friendly termination of his contract with the club; his current contract has two years remaining. It is expected that he will announce his retirement via social media in the next few days.
Last month, the midfielder suddenly fell ill during a pre-season medical examination at the Barueri-Funda Training Center. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance and admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), where he was diagnosed with vasovagal syncope.
This is a temporary loss of consciousness (syncope) caused by a drop in blood pressure and heart rate. According to experts consulted by Globo Esporte, this condition is not life-threatening but requires continuous monitoring.
Oscar joined São Paulo FC's youth academy in 2004, made his way to the first team in 2008, and moved from São Paulo to Internacional in the summer of 2010 for a transfer fee of €6 million. At that time, Oscar had only played 14 times for São Paulo, contributing 3 assists.
In 2012, Oscar joined Chelsea for €32 million. He made a total of 203 appearances for the Blues, scoring 38 goals and providing 31 assists, and won 2 Premier League titles (2014-15, 2016-17), 1 Europa League title (2012-13), and 1 League Cup title (2014-15) with the team.
In 2017, Oscar joined Shanghai Port FC from Chelsea for €60 million. He made 248 appearances for Shanghai Port, scoring 77 goals and providing 141 assists, leading the team to 3 Chinese Super League titles (2018, 2023, 2024), 1 Chinese Super Cup title (2019), and 1 Chinese FA Cup title (2024).
In December 2024, after his contract with Shanghai Port FC expired, Oscar announced his return to São Paulo FC, but due to injury, he only played 21 games for the team, scoring 2 goals and providing 5 assists.
