Major League Soccer (MLS) club Inter Miami is poised to reunite the iconic MSN attacking trident. According to multiple media reports, the MLS side is exploring the possibility of signing Neymar, and if successful, the Brazilian forward will reunite with Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez following their time together at FC Barcelona.
This attacking trio dominated football during their tenure at Barcelona (combining for 364 goals and 173 assists between 2014 and 2017). Though all three are now in the later stages of their careers, Inter Miami’s management is still considering letting the trio share one final dance on the North American stage. Currently, Neymar’s contract with his hometown club Santos runs until December this year, after which he will become a free agent.
Inter Miami has only two regular-season games left this season. Sitting near the top of the Eastern Conference, they are still in contention for the MLS Cup title. While the team is close to signing former Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilón, they also face lineup adjustments due to the impending retirements of Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets. The club is working on renewing contracts with 38-year-old Messi and Suárez, while simultaneously advancing plans to sign the 32-year-old Neymar.
Though formal negotiations have not yet begun, Neymar’s team believes that bringing Brazil’s all-time top scorer to the United States ahead of the World Cup year holds potential value both on and off the pitch. For Neymar, who is at a crossroads in his career, the prospect of reuniting with his former teammates is equally appealing.
Meanwhile, Messi is still in the running for the MLS Golden Boot—the Argentine star currently leads the scoring charts with 24 goals, just one ahead of Denis Bouanga and Thiago Almada. Inter Miami will face Atlanta United this Saturday, followed by an away match against Nashville SC to conclude their regular-season campaign.
