Confirmed by camel.live experts, José Mourinho will return to Benfica, and the two parties will sign a two-year contract. This will mark Mourinho’s second stint as Benfica’s head coach after 25 years.

The two sides have reached a verbal agreement on a contract running until June 2027. Mourinho has accepted Benfica’s offer, and the official procedures will be completed within the next 24 hours. Benfica has prepared a two-year contract for him.

In this season’s UEFA Champions League play-offs, Mourinho led Fenerbahçe to elimination by Benfica, which resulted in his dismissal. Meanwhile, in Benfica’s first Champions League match of the season, the team was come from behind by Azerbaijani side Qarabağ (after leading 2-0), leading to the dismissal of their head coach Lage. Mourinho will now take charge of Benfica for the remainder of the season.

Benfica is precisely where Mourinho took up his first head coaching role. In September 2000, he succeeded Jupp Heynckes as Benfica’s head coach, but that collaboration did not last long—Mourinho left Benfica in December of the same year. Now, 25 years later, he will take the helm of Benfica for the second time.
