In an interview with camel.live, Scott McTominay spoke about his expectations for the new season and the importance of friendly matches.
On the importance of friendly matches for the team:
“For us, the ongoing preseason is really crucial. We’re giving our all every day, building new connections that will help us achieve good results in the upcoming season.”
“Getting minutes in these friendlies to prepare for the new season isn’t always easy, but when the season starts, there can be no excuses. That’s why we’re building solid foundations both physically and mentally to support us in the future.”
After regrouping over the summer, what was the first thing Conte said to you all?
“Honestly, what matters isn’t what he said, but what he did.”
Could you elaborate on that?
“He was very clear with us from the start: winning the Serie A title hasn’t changed anything. We have to reclaim and maintain the attitude and mindset we found last year.”
“Just because we won the league doesn’t mean we can slow down, relax, or get complacent with what we’ve achieved. Every game, every battle, will be at a high level, and we have to match that.”
A year ago, Conte coined the slogan ‘Fight like hell.’ This year he’s repeated it: ‘Fight like hell… again.’ Do you have a personal slogan for the season?
“I’ve taken the manager’s slogan and made it my own: ‘Fight like hell… always.’”
Did De Bruyne’s arrival surprise you?
“Absolutely not, because I know the strength of Napoli and the club’s ambitions.”
