In the 8th round match of the African World Cup Qualifiers held in the early hours of Wednesday, Cameroon lost 1-0 to Cape Verde. After the game, a fan tried to take a photo with Onana but was pushed away by him.
After the match, as Onana was leaving the stadium, a fan approached him wanting to take a photo together, only to be pushed away by Onana. Shortly after that, the fan threw a bottle at him from behind.
A source close to Onana revealed that the player's action was due to concerns about his own safety. The source said: "After the game, most of the fans, especially Cape Verdean fans, poured onto the pitch.
"They are all Onana's fans, but because of the pressure of the match, he just wanted to rush to the dressing room—since the pitch was crowded with fans. But there was nothing more to it afterwards; many fans still waited for him to take photos. The same thing happened when we arrived at the airport—there were many fans waiting there to take photos with him."
