Liverpool player Diogo Jota and his 25-year-old brother tragically lost their lives in a car accident in Spain. At the time of the incident, the Jota brothers were driving a £250,000 Lamborghini Huracán. According to media reports, this model has long been plagued by recall issues and serious safety concerns.
It is reported that Lamborghini no longer produces the Huracán, though it remains one of the brand's most successful models. The specific Huracán variant driven by Jota during the accident has not been confirmed, and there is no indication that any of the safety issues linked to recent Lamborghini recalls contributed to the crash.
The Lamborghini Huracán, produced from 2014 to 2024, was one of Lamborghini's best-selling models, with over 25,000 units sold globally. The Huracán faced years of safety-related recalls, including issues where headlight adjustments could cause glare and reduced visibility, as well as faulty seatbelt warnings.
In September 2024, Lamborghini recalled 39 units of the Huracán EVO Spyder in the U.S. The brand acknowledged that due to human error in the factory, crash brackets—critical to the front structural components—might have been installed on the wrong side. Affected vehicles were produced between November 20, 2023, and July 26, 2024. This manufacturing defect was discovered by a factory worker, prompting Lamborghini to halt production and inspect affected cars.
In November 2023, Lamborghini recalled 7,805 Huracán models produced between July 30, 2014, and October 30, 2023. The issue involved a feature in the infotainment system that allowed drivers to horizontally adjust the headlights, including a "visitor mode" for left-hand drive, which violated U.S. federal safety regulations. This could cause glare for oncoming drivers and reduce visibility.
Additionally, Lamborghini recalled certain 2021 and 2023 Huracán coupé and Spyder models due to potential improper fixation of safety clips on door unlock cables during assembly. The company advised authorized dealers to inspect affected vehicles free of charge and assist customers in resolving the issue.
