After Liverpool star Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva sadly passed away in a car accident, the mourning atmosphere outside Anfield Stadium has grown increasingly profound. On Thursday evening, large crowds of fans gathered outside the stadium, with hundreds of scarves, flowers, and cards covering the lawn of 97 Avenue, forming a temporary memorial site.
The club announced on the same day that a book of condolences was set up in the reception hall of the Anfield Road Stand, open for four hours for fans to leave messages in memory. Additionally, the official website simultaneously launched an online condolence page to facilitate fans who couldn't visit the site in person to sign and pay their respects.
Images taken by Echo reporters showed scarves, flowers, and letters piling up on the lawn outside the stadium, with messages and bouquets conveying the grief and remembrance of the fans. A little girl queued up to sign the condolence book, clutching a laminated photo of Jota and a pink bouquet in her arms. A note read: "Thank you, Jota. We will miss you, our No. 20. YNWA. Rest in peace." Outside the stadium gates, a homemade banner stated: "RIP Jota YNWA."
