Japan is advancing preparations to bid for the World Cup again after many years following the 2002 Japan-Korea World Cup. It has set bidding for the 2046 World Cup as its core goal, and a plan for joint hosting by multiple Asian countries including Japan has emerged.
In March this year, the East Asian Football Federation, which is affiliated with the Japan Football Association, and the Southeast Asian Football Federation confirmed the direction of the bid at a meeting.
The bid will adopt a model of "jointly advancing after securing support from multiple countries". Currently, a plan has emerged where the East Asian Football Federation (including Japan, South Korea, China, etc.) and the Southeast Asian Football Federation (comprising 12 countries and regions) will join hands to jointly promote the initiative of "hosting the World Cup in Asia".
