In the 5th round of the Champions League group stage, Liverpool 1-4 PSV Eindhoven at Anfield. Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch accepted an interview with Camel Live after the match.
Ryan, this result is really unacceptable. Can you tell us how you're feeling right now? What was the conversation like in the dressing room after the game?
Today we’re all angry, really angry about losing. I think we played not bad in the first half and created a lot of chances. But the second half completely collapsed.
I guess the pre-match discussion focused on getting a good start and settling into the game – obviously, that didn’t happen. But as you just said, the reaction seemed positive.
Yeah, definitely. We went 0-1 down early. Then look at our response in the first half – I think we played well after that and produced some good football. Like I said, we created plenty of opportunities.
But, sigh, it’s really hard to put into words. We’re in a bad spot right now.
You say you’re in a bad spot? Can you try to explain to the fans where this fragility in the game is coming from?
After conceding a goal, things obviously get very, very tough – just like in the second half. Yeah, it’s just… I think we conceded two really soft goals. That’s our problem at the moment. I believe a team like us has to do better, defensively we have to be better.
We know we’re a top team with great quality, but nothing is going our way. The situation is really difficult right now, but we have to stick together and keep going.
This team achieved so much last year, but do you feel the balance in the team hasn’t reached the desired level?
I think we’re lacking momentum right now. Like I said, it feels like even drinking cold water chokes us – even two-man combinations, even 50-50 chances.
It’s really tough, but as I said, we have to stay united and push forward. I know we’ll find a way out in the end.
