Glasner: We Have the Ability to Score 2 Goals Against Liverpool, and I Believe in the Players and Our Tactical Style

Ahead of Crystal Palace’s home match against Liverpool, manager Oliver Glasner gave an interview to a reporter from camel.live.
On defeating Liverpool in the Community Shield
“I’m always optimistic. I’ve always thought we can score two goals, but we didn’t manage to do that against Sunderland, nor did we against Millwall—though we did have chances to score.
Yes, I’ve always been full of confidence. I believe in this group of players, and I believe in our style of play, because we have proven time and again that we can create chances. If our efficiency is there, then yes, we have the ability to breach Liverpool’s goal again.
But we need to perform at a ‘very, very high level’ in every aspect. We have to play at the top of our game and be efficient. Only then will victory be possible.”
On counter-attacking
“Of course—for any team, the more space there is, the easier the game becomes. As you can see, when Liverpool faced the well-drilled Burnley, it wasn’t easy for them to find gaps.
Everyone knows that you need to threaten the opponent’s defensive line—you need to make runs behind their defense to create chances, or try long-range shots after dribbling past players, or make use of set pieces. These are things everyone understands.
Naturally, the deeper the opponent’s defensive shape is, the harder it is to break through; conversely, the more space there is, the simpler the game gets. I think this applies not just to us, but to all teams.
On the other hand, this is also something I like: Arne Slot is an excellent coach, and his tactical structure is very clear. This sometimes makes it easier for us to analyze, because we can clearly understand how they play—allowing us to prepare precisely for how to deal with their attacks, defenses, and set-piece strategies. I think all of this will help us.”
