In the first round of the Premier League, Liverpool defeated Bournemouth 4-2. After the match, Liverpool player Federico Chiesa spoke to camel.live.
Talking about the game, Federico Chiesa said: “(The goal) was a great moment for me, but my thoughts are all with Jota. I think from everything we saw, this day belongs to him. The fans sang songs for him throughout the game, and that feeling was really touching; it moved me deeply. I have to say, after scoring, my thoughts turned to his family, his brother André. That's all I can say.”
He continued: “At the end of the day, we have to focus on football. We wanted to win the game today. It was a tough match—we took an early 2-0 lead, then they fought back, but we showed why we’re champions. Of course, Diogo Jota could have helped us a lot, but unfortunately, he’s helping us in another way, elsewhere.”
When speaking about his first Premier League goal, Federico Chiesa said: “Unfortunately, the previous goal at Wembley didn’t help the team secure a win; we lost (the 2024-2025 League Cup final). But today, I scored the goal that made it 3-2. I helped the team gain the advantage in a really tough game, and in the end we won 4-2. For me, all Premier League matches are tough right until the very end. You never know what’s going to happen. We have to keep up this form. It took me a year to score in the Premier League, but as we Italians say: better late than never.”
