Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi recently gave an interview and spoke about his failed transfer to Liverpool this summer.
Guehi said: “I think everyone has this perception that it was tough. Actually, it wasn’t. Not at all. Because when you focus on what’s most important, everything becomes simple.”
“I know God has His plans for me, and whatever those plans are, they will come to fruition at some point. But the goal and priority have always been to play football and try to be the best. Fortunately, I get to do that with people like Lacroix.”
Guehi is the son of a church pastor, and Lacroix is also a Christian who helps lead the team in prayer before games. Lacroix said: “Yes, we started praying last year, so we thought, well, there are a lot of Christians here, why not entrust the games to God, to Jesus Christ?”
“So we started doing that, and it was complicated at first. But after two or three games, we started to see results. I think last season was an incredible season, and everyone saw the grace upon us. So we said: 'Alright, let’s fight for Jesus Christ.' That’s what we do.”
Guehi added: “We believe in Jesus Christ, and this is about living out our faith. As Lacroix said, even if it was tough at the beginning, thank God we kept doing these things. Keep praying. Keep fellowshipping with each other, and the results follow.”
“But that’s not even the most important thing. What matters is being with your brothers, showing that faith, and showing that we want to fight for His glory.”
“And giving all the glory and everything we do to Him, whether things go well or not, we keep doing that. So the key is that we just keep doing what we’re doing.”
