Due to Raheem Sterling's high salary, Chelsea struggled to find a buyer for the player during this summer's transfer window (the 30-year-old earns around £300,000 per week).
In the final stages of the summer transfer window, both West Ham United and Fulham expressed interest in Sterling. However, he remained at Chelsea after the September 1 transfer deadline. Currently, transfer windows in several leagues are still open: Turkey’s and Mexico’s windows will close on September 12, Portugal’s on September 15, and the Saudi Pro League’s on September 23.
If both parties agree to terminate the contract, Sterling will have the opportunity to join another Premier League club as a free agent—since free agents can sign outside the transfer window. But this would come at a significant cost to Chelsea. Financial experts analyze that the termination cost could exceed £20 million. Nevertheless, if Sterling secures a new club, the two sides may be able to reduce the compensation amount to around £10 million.
