Premier League giants Manchester City are planning to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliott Anderson for £75 million, but the Citizens are expected to face fierce competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has been closely following the growth of this England international and has shown great appreciation for him. If the club decides to strengthen its midfield in next summer’s transfer window, Guardiola has identified Anderson as the top target. Since joining City in last January’s transfer window, Spanish midfielder Nico González has failed to establish himself at the Etihad Stadium, while the progress of Rodri’s recovery from injury and his long-term future at the club remain uncertain.
Anderson is bound to have no shortage of suitors next summer, as Chelsea is also eager to bring him to Stamford Bridge. The midfielder, who joined Forest from Newcastle United for £35 million in 2024, has gradually grown into one of the brightest young stars in the Premier League.
His progress has been recognized by England head coach Thomas Tuchel, who called him up to the England national team for the first time in August this year. Since then, the 22-year-old has played three games for the
Three Lions and is gradually securing a place under Tuchel. He is expected to be included in England’s final squad for next year’s US-Canada-Mexico World Cup, and his market value is bound to soar significantly if he can prove himself on this top stage.
If Manchester City decides to pursue Anderson, the club’s management will strive to reach an agreement with Forest before the World Cup kicks off. Anderson himself also hopes to avoid going into this major tournament with transfer rumors hanging over him.
